Phoebe: Wait, does he eat chalk?

Phoebe: 잠깐, 혹시 분필 같은 거 먹는 사람이야?

(They all stare, bemused.)

(서로 응시, 당황한)

Phoebe: Just, 'cause, I don't want her to go through what I went through with Carl- oh!

Phoebe: 난 단지 모니카가, 내가 Carl하고 겪었던 것처럼 되지 않길 바랄 뿐이야!

Monica: Okay, everybody relax. This is not even a date. It's just two people going out to dinner and- not having sex.

Monica: 좋아, 모두 진정해. 이건 데이트도 아니야. 이건 그냥 두 사람이 저녁 같이 하는 것 뿐이야. 섹스 하지 않고.

Chandler: Sounds like a date to me.

Chandler: 나한텐 데이트처럼 들리는 걸.

[Time Lapse]

Chandler: Alright, so I'm back in high school, I'm standing in the middle of the cafeteria, and I realize I am totally naked.

Chandler: 좋아, 나는 지금 고등학생으로 돌아갔어. 난 식당 한 가운데 서 있고, 나는 완전히 나체인 상태인 걸 깨닫지.

All: Oh, yeah. Had that dream.

Chandler: Then I look down, and I realize there's a phone... there.

Chandler: 그리고 아래를 내려다보면 ‘거기에’ 전화가 있어… 거기에.

Joey: Instead of...?

Joey: 대신에…?

Chandler: That's right.

Chandler: 그렇지.

Joey: Never had that dream.

Joey: 그런 꿈은 가진 적 없는데.

Phoebe: No.

Phoebe: 말도 안돼.

Chandler: All of a sudden, the phone starts to ring. Now I don't know what to do, everybody starts looking at me.

Chandler:그런데 갑자기 전화벨이 울리기 시작하고. 모든 사람들이 날 쳐다보기 시작해.

Monica: And they weren't looking at you before?!

Monica: 그 전까지는 안 쳐다보고 있었을까?

Chandler: Finally, I figure I'd better answer it, and it turns out it's my mother, which is very-very weird, because- she never calls me!

Chandler: 결국엔 전화를 받는 게 낫겠다고 생각하지만, 그게 우리 엄마였어.

근데 진짜 신기한 건, 엄만 나한테 절대 전화 안 하시거든!

[Time Lapse, Ross has entered.]

[Time Lapse, Ross 가 들어온다.]

Ross: (mortified) Hi.

Ross: (mortified) 안녕.

Joey: This guy says hello, I wanna kill myself.

Joey: 쟤가 인사하면, 난 확 죽어버리고 싶더라.

Monica: Are you okay, sweetie?

Monica: 좀 괜찮아?

Ross: I just feel like someone reached down my throat, grabbed my small intestine, pulled it out of my mouth and tied it around my neck…

Ross: 누가 내 목구멍으로 들어와 내 목젖을 잡고, 입 밖으로 끄집어 내서 내 목을 칭칭 감고 있는 것 같은 기분이야…

Chandler: Cookie?

Chandler: 과자 줄까?

Monica: (explaining to the others) Carol moved her stuff out today.

Monica: (다른 사람들에게 설명하며) Carol이 오늘 짐 챙겨 가지고 떠났대.

Joey: Ohh.

Joey: 오.

Monica: (to Ross) Let me get you some coffee.

Monica: (Ross 에게) 커피 좀 더 줄게.

Ross: Thanks.

Ross: 고마워.

Phoebe: Ooh! Oh! (She starts to pluck at the air just in front of Ross.)

Phoebe: 오! 오! (Ross 앞 쪽의 공기를 끄집어 내려 한다.)

Ross: No, no don't! Stop cleansing my aura! No, just leave my aura alone, okay?

Ross: 안돼, 내 기를 흐트리지마! 하지마, 그냥 좀 내버려 둬. 알겠어?

Phoebe: Fine! Be murky

Phoebe: 그래라! 계속 우울한 상태로 있어라

Ross: I'll be fine, alright? Really, everyone. I hope she'll be very happy.

Ross: 난 괜찮아, 됐지? 정말로, 얘들아 난 그녀가 행복해지길 바라.

Monica: No you don't.

Monica: 아닐껄.

Ross: No I don't, to hell with her, she left me!

Ross: 그래 아냐, 지옥에나 떨어져 버리라 그래. 그녀는 날 떠났어!

Joey: And you never knew she was a lesbian…

Joey: 레즈비언이었던 것도 몰랐잖아...

Ross: No!! Okay?! Why does everyone keep fixating on that? She didn't know, how should I know?

Ross: 그래, 몰랐다. 됐니?! 왜 다들 그 부분에만 신경을 쓰지? 그녀도 몰랐다는데, 나라고 별 수 있어?

Chandler: Sometimes I wish I was a lesbian... (They all stare at him.) Did I say that out loud?

Chandler: 나도 가끔은 레즈비언이고 싶을 때가 있지… (모두 그를 본다) 내가 너무 크게 얘기했니?

Ross: I told mom and dad last night, they seemed to take it pretty well.

Ross: 어젯밤에 부모님께 전화드렸는데, 그런대로 잘 받아 들이는 것 같아.

Monica: Oh really, so that hysterical phone call I got from a woman at sobbing 3:00 A.M., "I'll never have grandchildren, I'll never have grandchildren." was what? A wrong number?

Monica: 오 정말, 그럼 오늘 새벽 3시에 한 여자가 흐느껴 울며 걸려온 히스테리성 전화는? “손주 보긴 글렀다, 완전 글러 먹었다고.” 그건 뭐였는데? 잘못 걸린 전화였나?

Ross: Sorry.

Ross: 미안.

Joey: Alright Ross, look. You're feeling a lot of pain right now. You're angry. You're hurting. Can I tell you what the answer is?

(Ross gestures his consent.)

Joey: 좋아, Ross. 넌 지금 무척 고통스러워 하고 있어. 화도 나고, 상심도 크겠지. 해결책이 뭔지 알려줄까? (Ross가 허락하는 동작을 한다.)

Joey: Strip joint! C'mon, you're single! Have some hormones!

Joey: 스트립 바에 가는거야! 이봐, 넌 이제 싱글이잖아. 그 왕성한 호르몬 뒀다 뭐 할래?

Ross: I don't want to be single, okay? I just... I just- I just wanna be married again!

Ross: 난 싱글이 싫어, 알겠니? 난… 난 그냥 다시 결혼하고 싶다고!

(Rachel enters in a wet wedding dress and starts to search the room.)

(Rachel이 웨딩드레스를 입고 등장하고, 찾기 시작한다.)

Chandler: And I just want a million dollars! (He extends his hand hopefully.)

Chandler: 난 돈이나 왕창 생겼음 좋겠다! (그의 양 손을 희망적으로 펼친다.)

Monica: Rachel?!

Rachel: Oh God Monica hi! Thank God! I just went to your building and you weren't there and then this guy with a big hammer said you might be here and you are, you are!

Rachel: 오 세상에, Monica 안녕! 하나님 감사합니다! 나 지금 너네 집에 갔었는데 너 거기 없더라. 근데 망치를 들고 있는 사람이 너가 여기 있을거라고 해서 와 봤는데, 진짜 있네!

Waitress: Can I get you some coffee?

Waitress: 커피 좀 드릴까요?

Monica: (pointing at Rachel) De-caff. (to All) Okay, everybody, this is Rachel, another Lincoln High survivor. (to Rachel) This is everybody, this is Chandler, and Phoebe, and Joey, and- you remember my brother Ross?

Monica: (Rachel을 가리키며) De-caff. (모두에게) 얘들아, 얜 Rachel이야. 같은 링컨 고등학교 출신이지. 여긴 내 친구들이야. Chandler, Phoebe, Joey, 그리고 우리 오빠 Ross 기억하지?

Rachel: Hi, sure! / 그럼! 안녕!

Ross: Hi. / 안녕

(They go to hug but Ross's umbrella opens. He sits back down defeated again. A moment of silence follows as Rachel sits and the others expect her to explain.)

(서로 포옹하려고 하지만, Ross의 우산이 펴진다. 그는 다시 낙담하며 앉는다. 레이첼이 앉으면서 잠시 침묵이 흐르고, 다른 사람들은 그녀의 설명을 기대한다.)

Monica: So you wanna tell us now, or are we waiting for four wet bridesmaids?

Monica: 자, 그럼 자초지종을 좀 들어 볼까, 아님 들러리들 올 때까지 더 기다려줄까?

Rachel: Oh God... well, it started about a half hour before the wedding. I was in the room where we were keeping all the presents, and I was looking at this gravy boat. This really gorgeous Lamauge gravy boat. When all of a sudden- (to the waitress that brought her coffee)Sweet 'n' Lo?- I realized that I was more turned on by this gravy boat than by Barry! And then I got really freaked out, and that's when it hit me: how much Barry looks like Mr. Potato Head. Y'know, I mean, I always knew looked familiar, but... Anyway, I just had to get out of there, and I started wondering 'Why am I doing this, and who am I doing this for?'. (to Monica) So anyway I just didn't know where to go, and I know that you and I have kinda drifted apart, but you're the only person I knew who lived here in the city.

Rachel: 세상에… 그러니까 결혼식 시작 30분 전에 일이 터졌어. 난 선물을 모아둔 방에 있었는데, 거기서 그레비 소스 그릇을 정신없이 보고 있었어. 그건 정말 멋진 라마쥐 소스 그릇이었어. 근데 갑자기… ‘SWEET’ N LOW(인공감미료)’ 있어요? 내가 Barry보다 이 소스 그릇에 정신을 더 뺏기고 있었다는 걸 알았지. 그리곤 Barry가 미스터 포테이토의 머리하고 엄청 닮았다는 생각이 드는거야. 원래 익숙해 있었던 거지만… 어쨌든, 난 거길 빠져 나올 수밖에 없었어. 그리곤 생각했지. ‘왜 내가 이 짓을 해야 돼지? 누굴 위해서?’ 난 어디로 가야할지 몰랐고, 너랑은 헤어진 지 꽤 되었지만 내가 이 도시에서 아는 사람이라고는 너 뿐이잖아.

Monica: Who wasn't invited to the wedding.

Monica: 결혼식에 초대도 안 해 놓고선.

Rachel: Ooh, I was kinda hoping that wouldn't be an issue...

Rachel: 오, 그런건 별 문제가 되지 않겠거니 했는데…

[Scene: Monica's Apartment, everyone is there and watching a Spanish Soap on TV and are trying to figure out what is going on.]

[Scene: Monica의 아파트, 모두들 여기에서 Spanish Soap을 TV로 보고 있고, 무슨 일이 일어나는지 이해하려고 한다.]

Monica: Now I'm guessing that he bought her the big pipe organ, and she's really not happy about it.

Monica: 내 생각인데, 남자가 파이프 오르간을 사준 게 맘에 안 들었나봐.

Chandler: (imitating the characters) Tuna or egg salad? Decide!

Chandler: (배우를 흉내내며) 참치냐, 계란 샐러드냐. 그것이 문제로다!

Ross: (in a deep voice) I'll have whatever Christine is having.

Ross: (낮은 목소리로) 난 Christine이 먹는 걸로 할거야.

Rachel: (on phone) Daddy, I just... I can't marry him! I'm sorry. I just don't love him. Well, it matters to me!

Rachel: (전화로) 아빠, 전 그냥… 그 사람하고 결혼하기 싫어요. 미안해요. 사랑하지 않는데 어쩌겠어요.

(The scene on TV has changed to show two women, one is holding her hair.)

(TV의 scene 이 두 여자를 보여주는 것으로 바뀌었다. 한 명이 그녀의 머리카락을 잡고 있다.)

Phoebe: If I let go of my hair, my head will fall off.

Phoebe: 내 머리카락이 잘리면, 난 차라리 내 머릴 잘라버릴거야.

Chandler: (re TV) Ooh, she should not be wearing those pants.

Chandler: (다시 TV) 오, 저 바지 왜 입었대?

Joey: I say push her down the stairs.

Joey: 계단 밑으로 확 밀어버려.

Phoebe, Ross, Chandler, and Joey: Push her down the stairs! Push her down the stairs! Push her down the stairs!

Phoebe, Ross, Chandler, and Joey: 계단으로 밀어! 계단으로 밀어! 계단으로 밀어!

(She is pushed down the stairs and everyone cheers.)

(그녀는 계단으로 밀었고, 다들 환호한다.)

Rachel: C'mon Daddy, listen to me! It's like, it's like, all of my life, everyone has always told me, 'You're a shoe! You're a shoe, you're a shoe, you're a shoe!'. And today I just stopped and I said, 'What if I don't wanna be a shoe? What if I wanna be a- a purse, y'know? Or a- or a hat! No, I'm not saying I want you to buy me a hat, I'm saying I am a ha- It's a metaphor, Daddy!

Rachel: 제발, 아빠. 제 말 좀 들어주세요! 그건 모든 사람들이 저한테 말했듯이 ‘넌 짚신 한 짝이야. 넌 짚신 한 짝이야.’ 라고 그랬던 거랑 같은거예요. 오늘은 이렇게 말하겠어요. ‘내가 짚신 한 짝이 되기 싫다면?’ 지갑이나 아니면 모자가 되고 싶다면? 아니, 모자 사달라는 말이 아니잖아요. 전 그냥 제가 모자… 비유법도 몰라요 아빠?!

Ross: You can see where he'd have trouble.

Ross: 아빠한테 무슨 문제가 있는지 알겠다.

Rachel: Look Daddy, it's my life. Well maybe I'll just stay here with Monica.

Rachel: 아빠, 이건 제 인생이에요. 아마 여기서 모니카하고 지내게 될 것 같아요.

Monica: Well, I guess we've established who's staying here with Monica...

Monica: 음, 아마도 우리는 모니카와 여기서 살 누군가를 정한 것 같네...

Rachel: Well, maybe that's my decision. Well, maybe I don't need your money. Wait!! Wait, I said maybe!!

Rachel: 글쎄요, 그건 제가 결정한 거예요. ‘어쩌면’ 아빠한테 더 이상 돈 달라고 안 할지도 몰라요. 아빠, 잠깐만요. ‘어쩌면’ 이라니까요!!!

[Time Lapse, Rachel is breating into a paper bag.]

[Time Lapse, Rachel 이 종이가방에 숨을 쉬고 있다.]

Monica: Just breathe, breathe.. that's it. Just try to think of nice calm things…

Monica: 그냥 숨 쉬고, 들여 마시고… 그냥 다른 좋은 일들을 생각해 봐...

Phoebe: (sings) Raindrops on roses and rabbits and kittens, (Rachel and Monica turn to look at her.) bluebells and sleighbells and- something with mittens... La la la la...something and noodles with string. These are a few...

Phoebe: (노래) 장미꽃 위에 떨어지는 빗방울들 그리고 토끼와 새끼 고양이들 (Rachel 과 Monica 가 몸을 돌려 그녀를 응시한다.) 파란 종과 썰매종 그리고 털장갑… 랄랄라...뭔가 끈이 달린 국수… 많은...

Rachel: I'm all better now.

Rachel: 훨씬 좋아졌어.

Phoebe: (grins and walks to the kitchen and says to Chandler and Joey.) I helped!

Phoebe: (활짝 웃으며 부엌으로 걸어가면서 Chandler 와 Joey 에게 말한다.) 나 도왔다!

Monica: Okay, look, this is probably for the best, y'know? Independence. Taking control of your life. The whole, 'hat' thing.

Monica:좋아, 한번 보자. 이게 제일 좋은 방법이야. ‘독립’. 네 인생을 스스로 컨트롤 하는거야.. 이제 온전한 ‘모자’가 되는 거지.

Joey: (comforting her) And hey, you need anything, you can always come to Joey. Me and Chandler live across the hall. And he's away a lot.

Joey: (그녀를 위로하며) 필요한 게 있으면 언제든 Joey를 찾으라고. 나랑 Chandler는 저 건너편에 살아. 근데 Chandler는 집에 별로 안 있어.

Monica: Joey, stop hitting on her! It's her wedding day!

Monica: Joey, 그만 놀려대! 오늘 결혼식 날이었잖아!

Joey: What, like there's a rule or something?

Joey: 그런 날엔 뭐 규칙 같은 거라도 있나?

(The door buzzer sounds and Chandler gets it.)

(문의 벨 소리가 나고 Chandler가 받는다.)

Chandler: Please don't do that again, it's a horrible sound.

Chandler: 제발 다시 누르지 마세요, 끔찍한 소리가 나는군요.

Paul: (over the intercom) It's, uh, it's Paul.

Paul: (인터폰을 통해) 아, 전 Paul입니다.

Monica: Oh God, is it 6:30? Buzz him in!

Monica: 세상에, 지금 6:30 이니? 문 열어 줘!

Joey: Who's Paul? / Paul 이 누구야?

Ross: Paul the Wine Guy, Paul? / Paul? 와인 가이, Paul?

Monica: Maybe. Joey: Wait. Your 'not a real date' tonight is with Paul the Wine Guy?

Monica: 아마도. Joey: 잠깐. 네가 ‘진짜 데이트가 아닌’ 오늘 밤의 계획이 와인 가이 Paul이었단 말야?

Ross: He finally asked you out?

Ross: 결국 그가 데이트 신청했구나?

Monica: Yes! / 응!

Chandler: Ooh, this is a Dear Diary moment.

Chandler: 오, 이거 기록해 둬야 할 순간인데.

Monica: Rach, wait, I can cancel…

Monica: (to Ross) Are, are you okay? I mean, do you want me to stay?

Ross: (choked voice) That'd be good…

Ross: (메인 목소리로) 그럼 좋지...

Monica: (horrified) Really?

Monica: (충격받으며) 진짜야?

Ross: (normal voice) No, go on! It's Paul the Wine Guy!

Ross: (평범한 목소리로) 무슨 소리야! 어서 가. 와인 가이 Paul이잖아!

Phoebe: What does that mean? Does he sell it, drink it, or just complain a lot? (Chandler doesn't know.)

Phoebe: 뭔 소린지 알 수가 없네. 와인을 판다는거야? 아님 마신대? 맛 없다고 투덜대는 사람이야? (Chandler는 모른다.)

(There's a knock on the door and it's Paul.)

(문에 노크 소리가 들리고, Paul이다.)

Monica: Hi, come in! Paul, this is.. (They are all lined up next to the door.)... everybody, everybody, this is Paul.

Monica: 안녕, 들어와! Paul, 여긴… (그들은 문 옆에 줄지어 있다.) … 내 친구들. 얘들아, 여긴 Paul이야.

All: Hey! Paul! Hi! The Wine Guy! Hey!

모두: 안녕! Paul! 안녕! 와인 가이! Hey!

Chandler: I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name. Paul, was it?

Chandler: 죄송합니다만, 이름을 잘 못 들었는데. Paul 맞나요?

Monica: Okay, umm-umm, I'll just--I'll be right back, I just gotta go ah, go ah...

Monica: 좋아, 나 금방 돌아올게. 나 지금 어...

Ross: A wandering?

Ross: 헤매러 간다고?

Monica: Change! Okay, sit down. (Shows Paul in) Two seconds.

Monica: 옷 갈아 입으러! 좋아, 앉아 있어. (Paule을 보며) 2초.

Phoebe: Ooh, I just pulled out four eyelashes. That can't be good.

Phoebe: 오, 눈썹이 네 개나 빠졌어. 별로 좋지 않아.

(Monica goes to change.)

(Monica 는 옷을 바꿔 입으러 간다.)

Joey: Hey, Paul! / Paul!

Paul: Yeah? / 네?

Joey: Here's a little tip, she really likes it when you rub her neck in the same spot over and over and over again until it starts to get a little red.

Joey: Monica는 자기 목의 한 부분을 집중적으로 계속 문질러서 빨갛게 부풀게 해주면 아주 좋아할거예요.

Monica: (yelling from the bedroom) Shut up, Joey!

Monica: (침실에서 소리치며) 시끄러, Joey!

Ross: So Rachel, what're you, uh... what're you up to tonight?

Ross: Rachel, 오늘, 오늘 밤 무슨 계획이라도 있니?

Rachel: Well, I was kinda supposed to be headed for Aruba on my honeymoon, so nothing!

Rachel: 원래는 Aruba로 신혼여행을 갈 생각이었는데, 다 틀린 것 같네!

Ross: Right, you're not even getting your honeymoon, God.. No, no, although, Aruba, this time of year... talk about your- (thinks) -big lizards... Anyway, if you don't feel like being alone tonight, Joey and Chandler are coming over to help me put together my new furniture.

Ross: 맞어, 넌 신혼여행도 못 갔지. 아니, 그러니까 Aruba도 올해 쯤엔, 커다란 도마뱀밖엔 없을 거야. 아무튼, 오늘 밤 혼자 있기 싫으면 Joey하고 Chandler가 내 새 가구 들여 놓는 걸 도와주러 올거니까, 너도...

Chandler: (deadpan) Yes, and we're very excited about it.

Chandler: (무표정으로) 맞아, 도와주고 싶어 죽을 지경이지.

Rachel: Well actually thanks, but I think I'm just gonna hang out here tonight. It's been kinda a long day.

Rachel: 정말 고마운데, 오늘은 그냥 혼자 있을래. 오늘은 하루가 참 길다.

Ross: Okay, sure. / 그래, 그럼.

Joey: Hey Pheebs, you wanna help?

Joey: Pheebs, 너도 같이 갈래?

Phoebe: Oh, I wish I could, but I don't want to.

Phoebe: 그랬으면 좋겠는데, 싫어.

[Scene: Ross's Apartment, the guys are there assembling furniture.]

Ross: (squatting and reading the instructions) I'm supposed to attach a brackety thing to the side things, using a bunch of these little worm guys. I have no brackety thing, I see no whim guys whatsoever and- I cannot feel my legs.

Ross: (mortified) 안녕.

Joey: 쟤가 인사하면 난 확 죽어버리고 싶더라.

Ross: 누가 내 목구멍으로 들어와 내 목젖을 잡고,

Monica: (다른 사람들에게 설명하는) 캐롤이 오늘 짐 챙겨 가지고 떠났대.

Phoebe: 오! 오! (그녀는 Ross 앞 쪽의 공기를 끄집어 내려 한다.)

원래 익숙해 있었던 거지만…

어쨌든, 난 거길 빠져 나올 수밖에 없었어.

그리곤 생각했지.

‘왜 내가 이 짓을 해야 되지? 누굴 위해서?’

난 어디로 가야할지 몰랐고, 너랑은 헤어진 지 꽤 되었지만 내가 이 도시에서 아는 사람이라고는 너 뿐이잖아.

Monica: 결혼식에 초대도 안 해 놓고선.

Rachel: 오, 그런 건 별 문제가 되지 않겠거니 했는데...

Chandler: (배우를 흉내내며) 참치냐, 계란 샐러드냐. 그것이 문제로다!

Ross: (낮은 목소리로) 난 Christine이 먹는 걸로 할거야.

Rachel: (전화로) 아빠, 전 그냥… 그 사람하고 결혼하기 싫어요.

Rachel: 훨씬 좋아졌어.

Phoebe: (활짝 웃으며 부엌으로 걸어가면서 Chandler 와 Joey 에게 말한다.) 나 도왔다!

Monica:좋아, 한번 보자. 이게 제일 좋은 방법이야. ‘독립’. 네 인생을 스스로 컨트롤 하는거야..

이제 온전한 ‘모자’가 되는 거지.

Joey: (그녀를 위로하며) 필요한 게 있으면 언제든 Joey를 찾으라고

나랑 Chandler는 저 건너편에 살아.

근데 Chandler는 집에 별로 안 있어.

Monica: Joey, 그만 놀려대! 오늘 결혼식 날이었잖아!

Joey: Paul이 누구야?

Rachel:원래는 아루바로 신혼여행을 갈 생각이었는데, 다 틀린 거 같네!

Ross: 맞어, 넌 신혼여행도 못 갔지.

아니, 그러니가 아루바도 올해 쯤엔, 커다란 도마뱀 밖엔 없을거야.

아무튼, 오늘 밤 혼자 있기 싫으면

Joey하고 Chandler가 내 새 가구 들여 놓는 걸 도와주러 올거니까, 너도...

Chandler: (무표정의) 맞아, 도와주고 싶어 죽을 지경이지.

Joey: (남은 부품을 줍는다.) 이건 뭐지?

Ross: (맥주캔을 움켜쥐면서 냄새를 맡는) 이건 Carol이 좋아하던 맥주야.

매번 원샷에 끝냈는데… 그걸 몰랐다니...

Joey: 야 야 야! 너 또 징징대기 시작하면 우린 나가버린다.

Chandler: 그래, 지금 분위기 좋잖니.

Joey: Ross, 내가 뭐 하나 물어보지.

그녀는 나가면서 가구며, 스테레오며, 좋은 TV까지 다 챙겼는데.

Chandler: 놀라 자빠지겠다.

Joey: 축하해.

Rachel: 너도 알다시피, 내가 커피도 탈 수 있는데 다른 건 뭘 못하겠니.

Chandler: 내 생각엔, 내가 만약 폴란드를 침공할 수만 있다면 못할 건 아무것도 없을 것 같아.

Joey: 들어봐, 기왕 하는 김에 웨스턴 오믈렛이나 다른 걸 만들어 보지 그래?... (Joey 와 Chandler 커피 맛을 본다, 찡그린다, 그리고 커피를 화분에 붓는다.)

아, 그러고 보니 배가 별로 안 고프네...

Monica: (등장하며, 독백) 오 세상에, 온갖 떠벌이들이 다 여기 있잖아.

All: 좋은 아침

Paul: (Monica의 방에서 나오며) 잘 들 잤나요.

Joey: 잘 잤어요, Paul.

Rachel: 안녕, Paul.

Chandler: 안녕, 저거 Paul 아냐?

(Monica 와 Paul은 낮은 목소리로 문 쪽으로 걸으며 이야기 한다. 그래서 다른 이들은 안 들린다.

다른 사람들이 Monica의 식탁을 최대한 문에 가깝게 옮긴다.)

Paul: 고마워! 정말 고마워!

Monica: 그만해!

Paul: 아냐, 어젯밤은 마치… 내 생일, 내 졸업식, 게다가 ‘위트니스’의 마굿간 신 같았다고 .

Monica: 나중에 다시 얘기하자.

Paul: 그래. (서로 입맞춘다.) 고마워. (퇴장)

Joey: 저게 진짜 데이트가 아니라고? 그럼 진짜 데이트는 뭐라냐?

Monica: 시끄러, 그리고 내 식탁 제자리에 옮겨 줘.

All: 알았어! (그렇게 한다.)

Chandler: 그래, 얘들아, 난 일하러 가야겠다.

Joey: 너네 그거 아니? 쟨 이제 죽었어. Chandler? (Chandler 를 뒤쫓는다.)

Monica: 그래, 오늘은 좀 어때? 잠은 잘 잤니? Barry랑 얘기는 해 봤어? 나 웃음을 멈출 수가 없어.

Rachel: 그래 보여. 입이 아주 귀에 걸렸다.

Monica: 알아, 근데 그는 아주… 너 Tony DeMarco랑 너랑… 그거 기억나니?

Rachel: 오, 그럼~

Monica: 음, 그 때 그 느낌이야.

Rachel: 오 와우, 너 무슨 문제 있니?

Monica: 굉장했어!

Rachel: 웨딩드레스 빌려줄까? 거의 새거야.

Monica:내가 그래? 내가 개나 사람이나 잔인한 감정적 문제가 있는 것들을 상대해야 되는 그런 류냐고.

Phoebe: 좋아, 발이나 줘 봐. (그녀는 그들에게 마사지를 시작한다.)

Monica: 난 그가 정말 괜찮은 사람이라고 생각했어?

Joey: (다시 웃음이 터진다.) 어떻게 그런 구라를 믿었다냐!

(Monica 는 그를 소파로 미는데, Rachel이 쇼핑백과 함께 등장한다.)

Rachel: 뭔지 맞춰봐?

Ross: 일거리를 찾았니?

Rachel: 농담해? 여태 내가 준비한 게 뭐 있다고! 12번이나 면접에서 웃음거리만 됐어.

Chandler: 그런데도 아직 놀랍도록 씩씩한데.

Rachel: 너도 John and David 부츠가 50%나 세일하는 걸 봤으면 그럴껄!

Chandler: 오, 어떻게 나를 그렇게 잘 알지?

Ross: 힘 내, 넌 커피도 만들었잖아! 뭐든 할 수 있다고! (Chandler 는 천천히 아침에 그와 Joey가 그들의 커피를 부어서 죽은 화분을 숨기려고 한다.)

Ross: 힘 내! 짤라, 짤라, 짤라,...

All: 짤라, 짤라, 짤라, 짤라... (그녀는 여러 개 중 하나를 자르고, 그들이 응원해준다.)

Rachel: 그거 아니? 하나는 남겨둬도 될 것 같지 않니? 그냥 상징으로...

Monica: Rachel! 그건 도서관 카드였어!

Chandler: (Rachel이 그녀의 카드들을 자를 때) 잘 들으면 수 천개의 가게 주인들이 지르는 비명소리를 들을 수 있어.

Monica: 진짜 세상에 온 걸 환영해. 너도 좋아하게 될거야!

[Time Lapse, Rachel 과 Ross 는 TV 채널 시청하고 있고, 국가를 연주하며 방송이 마친다.]

Monica: 이제 끝났는데 (Ross 에게) 그 의자에 계속 쳐박혀 있을거야?

Ross: 아니, 아니, 언젠간 집에 가야지.

Monica: 괜찮아?

Ross: 그래.

Rachel: Mon, 내가 마루에서 뭘 발견했는데... (Monica 가 웃는다.) 뭐지?

Monica: Paul의 시계야. 원래 있던 자리에 도로 놔 줄래? 좋아, 다들 잘 자.

Ross 와 Rachel: 잘 자.

(Monica 는 Paul의 시계를 밟고, 그녀의 방으로 들어간다.)

Ross: 음. (그들 모두 마지막 과자에 손을 뻗쳤다.) 오, 미안-

Rachel: 미안-

Ross: 아냐, 난 별로야-

Rachel: 아냐, 너가 가졌잖아. 너 먹어-

Ross: 반으로 쪼갤까?

Rachel: 그래.

Chandler: All of a sudden, the phone starts to ring. Now I don't know what to do, everybody starts looking at me.

Monica: And they weren't looking at you before?!

Chandler: Finally, I figure I'd better answer it, and it turns out it's my mother, which is very-very weird, because- she never calls me!

[Time Lapse, Ross has entered.]

Ross: (mortified) Hi.

Joey: This guy says hello, I wanna kill myself.

Monica: Are you okay, sweetie?

Ross: I just feel like someone reached down my throat, grabbed my small intestine, pulled it out of my mouth and tied it around my neck...

Chandler: Cookie?

Monica: (explaining to the others) Carol moved her stuff out today.

Joey: Ohh.

Monica: (to Ross) Let me get you some coffee.

Ross: Thanks.

Phoebe: Ooh! Oh! (She starts to pluck at the air just in front of Ross.)

Ross: No, no don't! Stop cleansing my aura! No, just leave my aura alone, okay?

Phoebe: Fine! Be murky!

Ross: I'll be fine, alright? Really, everyone. I hope she'll be very happy.

Monica: No you don't.

Ross: No I don't, to hell with her, she left me!

Joey: And you never knew she was a lesbian...

Ross: No!! Okay?! Why does everyone keep fixating on that? She didn't know, how should I know?

Chandler: Sometimes I wish I was a lesbian... (They all stare at him.) Did I say that out loud?

Monica: Oh really, so that hysterical phone call I got from a woman at sobbing 3:00 A.M., "I'll never have grandchildren, I'll never have grandchildren." was what? A wrong number?

Joey: Alright Ross, look. You're feeling a lot of pain right now. You're angry. You're hurting. Can I tell you what the answer is?

(Ross gestures his consent.)

Joey: Strip joint! C'mon, you're single! Have some hormones!

Ross: I don't want to be single, okay? I just... I just- I just wanna be married again!

(Rachel enters in a wet wedding dress and starts to search the room.)

Chandler: And I just want a million dollars! (He extends his hand hopefully.)

Monica: Rachel?!

Rachel: Oh God Monica hi! Thank God! I just went to your building and you weren't there and then this guy with a big hammer said you might be here and you are, you are!

Waitress: Can I get you some coffee?

Rachel: Hi, sure!

(They go to hug but Ross's umbrella opens. He sits back down defeated again. A moment of silence follows as Rachel sits and the others expect her to explain.)

Monica: So you wanna tell us now, or are we waiting for four wet bridesmaids?

Monica: Who wasn't invited to the wedding.

Rachel: Ooh, I was kinda hoping that wouldn't be an issue... [Scene: Monica's Apartment, everyone is there and watching a Spanish Soap on TV and are trying to figure out what is going on.]

Monica: Now I'm guessing that he bought her the big pipe organ, and she's really not happy about it.

Chandler: (imitating the characters) Tuna or egg salad? Decide!

Ross: (in a deep voice) I'll have whatever Christine is having.

Rachel: (on phone) Daddy, I just... I can't marry him! I'm sorry. I just don't love him. Well, it matters to me!

(The scene on TV has changed to show two women, one is holding her hair.)

Phoebe: If I let go of my hair, my head will fall off.

Chandler: (re TV) Ooh, she should not be wearing those pants.

Joey: I say push her down the stairs.

Phoebe, Ross, Chandler, and Joey: Push her down the stairs! Push her down the stairs! Push her down the stairs!

(She is pushed down the stairs and everyone cheers.)

Ross: You can see where he'd have trouble.

Rachel: Look Daddy, it's my life. Well maybe I'll just stay here with Monica.

Monica: Well, I guess we've established who's staying here with Monica...

Rachel: Well, maybe that's my decision. Well, maybe I don't need your money. Wait!! Wait, I said maybe!!

[Time Lapse, Rachel is breating into a paper bag.]

Monica: Just breathe, breathe.. that's it. Just try to think of nice calm things...

Rachel: I'm all better now.

Phoebe: (grins and walks to the kitchen and says to Chandler and Joey.) I helped!

Monica: Okay, look, this is probably for the best, y'know? Independence. Taking control of your life. The whole, 'hat' thing.

Joey: (comforting her) And hey, you need anything, you can always come to Joey. Me and Chandler live across the hall. And he's away a lot.

Monica: Joey, stop hitting on her! It's her wedding day!

Joey: What, like there's a rule or something?

(The door buzzer sounds and Chandler gets it.)

Chandler: Please don't do that again, it's a horrible sound.

Paul: (over the intercom) It's, uh, it's Paul.

Monica: Oh God, is it 6:30? Buzz him in!

Joey: Who's Paul?

Ross: Paul the Wine Guy, Paul?

Monica: Maybe. Joey: Wait. Your 'not a real date' tonight is with Paul the Wine Guy?

Ross: He finally asked you out?

Monica: Yes!

Chandler: Ooh, this is a Dear Diary moment.

Monica: Rach, wait, I can cancel...

Rachel: Please, no, go, that'd be fine!

Monica: (to Ross) Are, are you okay? I mean, do you want me to stay?

Ross: (choked voice) That'd be good...

Monica: (horrified) Really?

Ross: (normal voice) No, go on! It's Paul the Wine Guy!

Phoebe: What does that mean? Does he sell it, drink it, or just complain a lot? (Chandler doesn't know.)

(There's a knock on the door and it's Paul.)

Monica: Hi, come in! Paul, this is.. (They are all lined up next to the door.)... everybody, everybody, this is Paul.

All: Hey! Paul! Hi! The Wine Guy! Hey!

Chandler: I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name. Paul, was it?

Monica: Okay, umm-umm, I'll just--I'll be right back, I just gotta go ah, go ah...

Ross: A wandering?

Monica: Change! Okay, sit down. (Shows Paul in) Two seconds.

Phoebe: Ooh, I just pulled out four eyelashes. That can't be good.

(Monica goes to change.)

Joey: Hey, Paul!

Paul: Yeah?

Joey: Here's a little tip, she really likes it when you rub her neck in the same spot over and over and over again until it starts to get a little red.

Monica: (yelling from the bedroom) Shut up, Joey!

Ross: So Rachel, what're you, uh... what're you up to tonight?

Rachel: Well, I was kinda supposed to be headed for Aruba on my honeymoon, so nothing!

Chandler: (deadpan) Yes, and we're very excited about it.

Rachel: Well actually thanks, but I think I'm just gonna hang out here tonight. It's been kinda a long day.

Ross: Okay, sure.

Joey: Hey Pheebs, you wanna help?

Phoebe: Oh, I wish I could, but I don't want to.

Commercial Break

[Scene: The Subway, Phoebe is singing for change.]

[Scene: Ross's Apartment, the guys are there assembling furniture.]

(Joey and Chandler are finishing assembling the bookcase.)

Joey: I'm thinking we've got a bookcase here.

Chandler: It's a beautiful thing.

Joey: (picking up a leftover part) What's this?

Chandler: I would have to say that is an 'L'-shaped bracket.

Joey: Which goes where?

Chandler: I have no idea.

(Joey checks that Ross is not looking and dumps it in a plant.)

Joey: Done with the bookcase!

Chandler: All finished!

Ross: (clutching a beer can and sniffing) This was Carol's favorite beer. She always drank it out of the can, I should have known.

Joey: Hey-hey-hey-hey, if you're gonna start with that stuff we're outta here.

Chandler: Yes, please don't spoil all this fun.

Joey: Ross, let me ask you a question. She got the furniture, the stereo, the good TV- what did you get?

Ross: You guys.

Chandler: Oh, God.

Joey: You got screwed.

Chandler: Oh my God!

[Scene: A Restaurant, Monica and Paul are eating.]

Monica: Oh my God!

Paul: I know, I know, I'm such an idiot. I guess I should have caught on when she started going to the dentist four and five times a week. I mean, how clean can teeth get?

Monica: My brother's going through that right now, he's such a mess. How did you get through it?

Paul: Well, you might try accidentally breaking something valuable of hers, say her-

Monica: -leg?

Paul: (laughing) That's one way! Me, I- I went for the watch.

Monica: You actually broke her watch? Wow! The worst thing I ever did was, I-I shredded by boyfriend's favorite bath towel.

Paul: Ooh, steer clear of you.

Monica: That's right. [Scene: Monica's Apartment, Rachel is talking on the phone and pacing.]

[Scene: Ross's Apartment; Ross is pacing while Joey and Chandler are working on some more furniture.]

Ross: I'm divorced! I'm only 26 and I'm divorced!

Joey: Shut up!

Chandler: You must stop! (Chandler hits what he is working on with a hammer and it collapses.)

Ross: That only took me an hour.

Ross: I honestly don't know if I'm hungry or horny.

Chandler: Stay out of my freezer! [Scene: A Restaurant, Monica and Paul are still eating.]

Paul: Ever since she walked out on me, I, uh...

Monica: What?..... What, you wanna spell it out with noodles?

Paul: No, it's, it's more of a fifth date kinda revelation.

Monica: Oh, so there is gonna be a fifth date?

Paul: Isn't there?

Monica: Yeah... yeah, I think there is. -What were you gonna say?

Paul: Well, ever-ev-... ever since she left me, um, I haven't been able to, uh, perform. (Monica takes a sip of her drink.) ...Sexually.

Monica: (spitting out her drink in shock) Oh God, oh God, I am sorry... I am so sorry...

Paul: It's okay...

Monica: I know being spit on is probably not what you need right now. Um... how long?

Paul: Two years.

Monica: Wow! I'm-I'm-I'm glad you smashed her watch!

Paul: So you still think you, um... might want that fifth date?

Monica: (pause)...Yeah. Yeah, I do.

[Scene: Monica's Apartment, Rachel is watching Joanne Loves Chaci.]

Priest on TV: We are gathered here today to join Joanne Louise Cunningham and Charles, Chachi-Chachi-Chachi, Arcola in the bound of holy matrimony.

Rachel: Oh...see... but Joanne loved Chachi! That's the difference!

[Scene: Ross's Apartment, they're all sitting around and talking.]

Ross: (scornful) Grab a spoon. Do you know how long it's been since I've grabbed a spoon? Do the words 'Billy, don't be a hero' mean anything to you?

Joey: Great story! But, I uh, I gotta go, I got a date with Andrea--Angela--Andrea... Oh man, (looks to Chandler)

Chandler: Angela's the screamer, Andrea has cats.

Joey: Right. Thanks. It's June. I'm outta here. (Exits.)

Ross: Y'know, here's the thing. Even if I could get it together enough to- to ask a woman out,... who am I gonna ask? (He gazes out of the window.)

[Cut to Rachel staring out of her window.]

Commercial Break

[Scene: Monica's Apartment, Rachel is making coffee for Joey and Chandler.]

Rachel: Isn't this amazing? I mean, I have never made coffee before in my entire life.

Chandler: That is amazing.

Joey: Congratulations.

Rachel: Y'know, I figure if I can make coffee, there isn't anything I can't do.

Chandler: If can invade Poland, there isn't anything I can't do.

Monica: (entering, to herself) Oh good, Lenny and Squigy are here.

All: Morning. Good morning.

Paul: (entering from Monica's room) Morning.

Joey: Morning, Paul.

Rachel: Hello, Paul.

Chandler: Hi, Paul, is it?

(Monica and Paul walk to the door and talk in a low voice so the others can't hear. The others move Monica's table closer to the door so that they can.)

Paul: Thank you! Thank you so much!

Monica: Stop!

Paul: No, I'm telling you last night was like umm, all my birthdays, both graduations, plus the barn raising scene in Witness.

Monica: We'll talk later.

Paul: Yeah. (They kiss) Thank you. (Exits)

Joey: That wasn't a real date?! What the hell do you do on a real date?

Monica: Shut up, and put my table back.

All: Okayyy! (They do so.)

Chandler: All right, kids, I gotta get to work. If I don't input those numbers,... it doesn't make much of a difference...

Rachel: So, like, you guys all have jobs?

Monica: Yeah, we all have jobs. See, that's how we buy stuff.

Joey: Yeah, I'm an actor.

Rachel: Wow! Would I have seen you in anything?

Joey: I doubt it. Mostly regional work.

Monica: Oh wait, wait, unless you happened to catch the Reruns' production of Pinocchio, at the little theater in the park.

Joey: Look, it was a job all right?

Chandler: 'Look, Gippetto, I'm a real live boy.'

Joey: I will not take this abuse. (Walks to the door and opens it to leave.)

Chandler: You're right, I'm sorry. (Burst into song and dances out of the door.) "Once I was a wooden boy, a little wooden boy..."

Joey: You should both know, that he's a dead man. Oh, Chandler? (Starts after Chandler.)

Monica: So how you doing today? Did you sleep okay? Talk to Barry? I can't stop smiling.

Rachel: I can see that. You look like you slept with a hanger in your mouth.

Monica: I know, he's just so, so... Do you remember you and Tony DeMarco?

Rachel: Oh, yeah.

Monica: Well, it's like that. With feelings.

Rachel: Oh wow. Are you in trouble.

Monica: Big time!

Rachel: Want a wedding dress? Hardly used.

Monica: I think we are getting a little ahead of selves here. Okay. Okay. I am just going to get up, go to work and not think about him all day. Or else I'm just gonna get up and go to work.

Rachel: Oh, look, wish me luck!

Monica: What for?

Rachel: I'm gonna go get one of those (Thinks) job things.

(Monica exits.)

[Scene: Iridium, Monica is working as Frannie enters.]

Frannie: Hey, Monica!

Monica: Hey Frannie, welcome back! How was Florida?

Frannie: You had sex, didn't you?

Monica: How do you do that?

Frannie: Oh, I hate you, I'm pushing my Aunt Roz through Parrot Jungle and you're having sex! So? Who?

Monica: You know Paul?

Frannie: Paul the Wine Guy? Oh yeah, I know Paul.

Monica: You mean you know Paul like I know Paul?

Frannie: Are you kidding? I take credit for Paul. Y'know before me, there was no snap in his turtle for two years.

[Scene: Central Perk, everyone but Rachel is there.]

Joey: (sitting on the arm of the couch)Of course it was a line!

Monica: Why?! Why? Why, why would anybody do something like that?

Ross: I assume we're looking for an answer more sophisticated than 'to get you into bed'.

Monica: I hate men! I hate men!

Phoebe: Oh no, don't hate, you don't want to put that out into the universe.

Monica: Is it me? Is it like I have some sort of beacon that only dogs and men with severe emotional problems can hear?

Phoebe: All right, c'mere, gimme your feet. (She starts massaging them.)

Monica: I just thought he was nice, y'know?

Joey: (bursts out laughing again) I can't believe you didn't know it was a line!

(Monica pushes him off of the sofa as Rachel enters with a shopping bag.)

Rachel: Guess what?

Ross: You got a job?

Rachel: Are you kidding? I'm trained for nothing! I was laughed out of twelve interviews today.

Chandler: And yet you're surprisingly upbeat.

Rachel: You would be too if you found John and David boots on sale, fifty percent off!

Chandler: Oh, how well you know me...

Rachel: They're my new 'I don't need a job, I don't need my parents, I've got great boots' boots!

Monica: How'd you pay for them?

Rachel: Uh, credit card.

Monica: And who pays for that?

Rachel: Um... my... father.

[Scene: Monica and Rachel's, everyone is sitting around the kitchen table. Rachel's credit cards are spread out on the table along with a pair of scissors.]

Rachel: Oh God, come on you guys, is this really necessary? I mean, I can stop charging anytime I want.

Monica: C'mon, you can't live off your parents your whole life.

Rachel: I know that. That's why I was getting married.

Phoebe: Give her a break, it's hard being on your own for the first time.

Rachel: Thank you.

(Pause)

Ross: The word you're looking for is 'Anyway'...

Monica: All right, you ready?

Rachel: No. No, no, I'm not ready! How can I be ready? "Hey, Rach! You ready to jump out the airplane without your parachute?" Come on, I can't do this!

Monica: You can, I know you can!

Rachel: I don't think so.

Ross: Come on, you made coffee! You can do anything! (Chandler slowly tries to hide the now dead plant from that morning when he and Joey poured their coffee into it.)

Ross: C'mon, cut. Cut, cut, cut,...

All: Cut, cut, cut, cut, cut, cut, cut... (She cuts one of them and they cheer.)

Rachel: Y'know what? I think we can just leave it at that. It's kinda like a symbolic gesture...

Monica: Rachel! That was a library card!

All: Cut, cut, cut, cut, cut, cut, cut..

Chandler: (as Rachel is cutting up her cards) Y'know, if you listen closely, you can hear a thousand retailers scream.

(She finishes cutting them up and they all cheer.)

Monica: Welcome to the real world! It sucks. You're gonna love it!

[Time Lapse, Rachel and Ross are watching a TV channel finishes it's broadcast day by playing the national anthem.]

Monica: Well, that's it (To Ross) You gonna crash on the couch?

Ross: No. No, I gotta go home sometime.

Monica: You be okay?

Ross: Yeah.

Rachel: Hey Mon, look what I just found on the floor. (Monica smiles.) What?

Monica: That's Paul's watch. You just put it back where you found it. Oh boy. Alright. Goodnight, everybody.

Ross and Rachel: Goodnight.

(Monica stomps on Paul's watch and goes into her room.)

Ross: Mmm. (They both reach for the last cookie) Oh, no-

Rachel: Sorry-

Ross: No no no, go-

Rachel: No, you have it, really, I don't want it-

Ross: Split it?

Rachel: Okay.

Ross: Okay. (They split it.) You know you probably didn't know this, but back in high school, I had a, um, major crush on you.

Rachel: I knew.

Ross: You did! Oh.... I always figured you just thought I was Monica's geeky older brother.

Rachel: I did.

Ross: Oh. Listen, do you think- and try not to let my intense vulnerability become any kind of a factor here- but do you think it would be okay if I asked you out? Sometime? Maybe?

Rachel: Yeah, maybe...

Ross: Okay... okay, maybe I will...

Rachel: Goodnight.

Ross: Goodnight.

(Rachel goes into her room and Monica enters the living room as Ross is leaving.)

Monica: See ya.... Waitwait, what's with you?

Ross: I just grabbed a spoon. (Ross exits and Monica has no idea what that means.)

Closing Credits

[Scene: Central Perk, everyone is there.]

Joey: I can't believe what I'm hearing here.

Phoebe: (sings) I can't believe what I'm hearing here...

Monica: What? I-I said you had a-

Phoebe: (sings) What I said you had...

Monica: (to Phoebe) Would you stop?

Phoebe: Oh, was I doing it again?

All: Yes!

Monica: I said that you had a nice butt, it's just not a great butt.

Joey: Oh, you wouldn't know a great butt if it came up and bit ya.

Ross: There's an image.

Rachel: (walks up with a pot of coffee) Would anybody like more coffee?

Chandler: Did you make it, or are you just serving it?

Rachel: I'm just serving it.

All: Yeah. Yeah, I'll have a cup of coffee.

Chandler: Kids, new dream... I'm in Las Vegas. (Rachel sits down to hear Chandler's dream.)

Customer: (To Rachel) Ahh, miss? More coffee?

Chandler: Okay, so, I'm in Las Vegas... I'm Liza Minelli-
